Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt says Phakamani Mahlambi is still on trial at the Betway Premiership club.
The 27-year-old winger hasn’t played since 2022 following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns, where he made 44 appearances, scoring seven goals and creating one.
He joined the Brazilians from Al Ahly and has also turned out for Bidvest Wits, under Hunt, as well as Chippa United and AmaZulu on loan.
Mahlambi is working his way back to full fitness, explained the Durban City boss, who is yet to make a decision on whether or not to offer the player a contract.
He told FARPost: “Yeah, look, he’s just got to keep training, doesn’t he? You know what I’m saying, keep running, keep training and then if something happens, something happens, you know.
“I told him, and he knows that. There are no promises, and he’s accepted that, and we get him fit, uh…try and get him fit, and that is all you can do.”
Hunt added, “Well, he has certainly improved from when he first came. There is no doubt about it, you know. He has certainly improved a lot, yeah.”
