"His time will come and he has to be ready to give his best for the club and for the team." - Orlando Pirates Coach Addresses Sinoxolo Kwayiba Game Time Following First League Win

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has spoken about his team’s selection policy following their first league victory of the season, a hard-fought 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC.

The victory, courtesy of a goal from Kamogelo Sebelebele, lifted the Buccaneers to 11th place in the Betway Premiership standings.

Prioritizing a Much-Needed Victory

After a challenging start to the season, Ouaddou emphasized that the priority was securing a win. “You have to think about priorities and our priority today is to take 3 points,” he said after his side dispatched the Western Cape representatives.

He acknowledged the upcoming MTN8 semi-final clash with Mamelodi Sundowns but maintained that the focus had to be on the present. “We were not in the position that we can afford to think to the next game, because today was very important to win.”

Competition for Places in the Squad

Following a busy transfer window that saw fourteen new players join the club, Ouaddou has been integrating his new recruits, with most of them already making their debuts.

That being said, one notable player who has barely featured is midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba. Despite the scrutiny over his team selection, Ouaddou has defended his decision. More recently, the former Marumo Gallants mentor has opted for more experienced players like Thalente Mbatha and Tshegofatso Mabasa.

When asked about Kwayiba’s prolonged absence from the lineup, Ouaddou praised the Bafana Bafana international’s dedication and hard work. “Kwayiba is doing a fantastic job everyday, I’m very happy about his commitment, his professionalism,” he stated.

The forty-six year old tactician reassured fans that Kwayiba’s opportunity would come, highlighting the importance of being ready when it does. “His time will come and he has to be ready to give his best for the club and for the team.”

Pirates will face their biggest challenge yet when they travel to Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium for the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. The two teams are tied at 1-1 after the first leg. Kick off is set for 15h00 in Pretoria.
