Dzenan Zajmovic speaks on why he wanted to join Kaizer Chiefs

Despite having an impressive debut season in the Premier Soccer League, former TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic has opened up about his unsuccessful move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 30-year-old made 28 appearances for the Rockets and netted 11 goals across all competitions before parting ways with them just after one season.

Zajmovic was speaking to Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube on Wednesday. He expressed his disappointment in failing to remain in South Africa after struggling to secure a contract with a PSL team, which led to him joining Iranian side Zob Ahan.

“The plan was to stay in South Africa, but I was not happy with all the offers that had been made, so I just made another choice, but plan A was just to stay in South Africa because I had already got used to the lifestyle, people and the football,” said Zajmovic.

The Bosnian striker confirmed that two PSL clubs gave him offers, but he turned them down because they were not up to standard.

He was heavily linked with a move to Chiefs after the club struggled with scoring goals, which led to the departure of Ranga Chivaviro. Amakhosi ended up signing Flavio Silva as his replacement. He confirmed that he was interested in joining the Soweto giants, but he never received an offer from them.

“Two clubs sent me official offers, but it was not the clubs I hoped would come after such an amazing season and also the fans hoped that another club would come, but that offer never came.

“I wanted to play in a team in South Africa, they have yellow jerseys, yellow and black.

“I was thinking about it because they are also based in Joburg, I got used to the lifestyle, to everything, so I’ve already adapted, so it would be an easy step for me to make but also for the club they would not have a big risk of me not settling into the club or something so I was also thinking about that move but it didn’t happen.

Zajmovic said he prefers Chiefs because of their’ passionate fans who back the team even in difficult times.

“The fans make the team; this season, they finished ninth. They are not in the top, but they have the ambition to be in the top; that’s the difference,’ he concluded.
