Jabu Mahlangu backs Sipho Mbule to shine at Orlando Pirates

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Jabu Mahlangu has thrown his support behind Sipho Mbule, predicting that the midfielder will thrive at Orlando Pirates.

Mbule, who joined the Buccaneers last month as a free agent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns, has already begun winning over the Pirates faithful.

Nicknamed ‘Master Chef’ for his flair and creativity, the 26-year-old impressed in his debut and appears to have quickly settled into his new surroundings.

Speaking to SABC Sport,  Mahlangu said it’s time for Mbule to turn the page and rediscover the form that once made him one of South Africa’s most promising talents.

“All these Pirates players are quality, and they’re going to add value,” Mahlangu said. “But Mbule, because of what he’s been going through personally, I think it’s time for him to revive himself.”

Mahlangu, who represented both Chiefs and Pirates during his playing career, related to Mbule’s challenges, drawing from his own history of off-field struggles.

“I wasn’t judging him at all, the way people were bashing him on social media,” he added. “I’ve been there… so I think those words of wisdom, I think.”

Mbule has now spent four weeks with Pirates during pre-season and has emerged as the creative spark the club may have been missing. If he can maintain his focus and discipline, his resurgence could be one of the stories of the season.
