Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the departure of striker Zakhele Lepasa, bringing an end to his long-standing association with the club.

The 28-year-old now enters free agency as he looks to revive his career following a prolonged injury layoff.

Lepasa, a product of the Pirates development system, joined the first team in 2018 but struggled to cement a regular starting role amid stiff competition and injury setbacks. He was notably absent from the club’s recent pre-season tour to Spain, signalling his impending exit.

During his time with the Buccaneers, Lepasa registered 15 goals and two assists in 64 appearances across all competitions. He also contributed to five domestic cup triumphs.

Despite flashes of promise, Lepasa did not make a single appearance during the 2024/25 season due to a long-term injury. With his contract now concluded, the forward will be seeking a fresh start and is aiming to work his way back into Bafana Bafana contention.

As a sign of progress in his recovery and form, Lepasa has been included in the South African squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), with their campaign set to begin against hosts Algeria on 5 August.

Lepasa’s exit marks another shift in Pirates’ attacking department as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new season.
