Cape Town City have confirmed the departure of nine players following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, marking a significant reshuffle.
The Citizens were relegated after failing to win a single match during the Premier Soccer League promotion/relegation playoffs, a run of poor form that saw them lose their top-tier status. Orbit College capitalised on City’s collapse to secure promotion to the Betway Premiership.
In a statement released by the club, City announced the exits of several senior players, including long-serving midfielder Thabo Nodada and club captain Thami Mkhize.
Other notable departures are veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet, attacking midfielder Darwin Gonzalez, and defenders Lorenzo Gordinho and Fortune Makaringe.
The list is rounded off by Haashim Domingo, Elson Sithole, and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo.
The mass exodus signals a period of rebuilding for Cape Town City, with the club now tasked with assembling a squad capable of challenging for promotion in the second tier.
Off the field, there are growing rumours that club chairman John Comitis has explored avenues to re-secure a place in the Premiership by purchasing a new top-flight status. However, no deal has materialised thus far, leaving the club’s immediate future mired in uncertainty.
