After parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2024/25 season, seasoned defender Rivaldo Coetzee finds himself at a career crossroads.
Having amassed eight league titles and continental honours during a trophy-laden stint at Chloorkop since his arrival in 2017, the 28-year-old now shifts focus to the next chapter in his journey.
With reports linking him to clubs like Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United, Coetzee remains tight-lipped – but clear on what he wants.
“There is so much I can still do. I trust myself completely. It’s just a matter of getting the opportunity and being in a good environment. That’s all I am looking for now,” Coetzee was quoted by FarPost.
While he refrained from revealing where he may land next, Coetzee’s words suggest a player hungry to rediscover his rhythm after a stop-start career marked by brilliance and setbacks alike. Currently training on his own to maintain fitness, he’s keeping an open mind.
“No hint. I am just taking it day by day, taking things as they come. You can’t control these things,” he added.
“It’s football. Sometimes you’re at the biggest club, and the next moment you’re searching for a new one. That’s life, and I take it as it comes.”
With experience, resilience, and a winner’s mentality, Coetzee may yet prove to be one of the smarter acquisitions in the upcoming transfer window, should the right club offer the right environment.
