Following their unexpected relegation to the second division, Cape Town City are grappling with the likely departure of several key players.
Discussions are reportedly underway for the club to part ways with captain Thamsanqa Mkhize and veteran campaigners Thulani Serero, Haashim Domingo, and Fortune Makaringe.
The club’s demotion from the Betway Premiership came as a significant blow, particularly given the high hopes generated by what appeared to be strong signings at the start of last season.

Despite these promising additions, City endured a dismal campaign, securing only seven wins and scoring a league-low 15 goals, ultimately finishing in 15th place. Their fate was sealed after a disappointing performance in the PSL Promotion Playoffs, where they failed to register a single victory.
According to iDiski Times, Cape Town City has been actively exploring options to buy their way back into the top flight, but without success so far. This lack of an immediate return to the Premiership further complicates their player retention efforts.
The club’s immediate focus seems to be on negotiating exits for the aforementioned players. While Mkhize and Serero’s contract situations aren’t explicitly detailed, both Domingo and Makaringe have two years remaining on their current deals.
This means Cape Town City will need to reach mutually agreeable settlement agreements with them before any departures can be finalized. The looming player exodus signals a major rebuilding phase for the Mother City side as they prepare for life in the second tier.
