Several teams from North Africa have made bids for the talented Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien, according to his agent.
Basia Michaels, who is the player’s agent, confirmed to SABC Sport receiving two offers from North African clubs for the Bafana Bafana defender.
“Yes, it’s true that we’ve received what I could describe as a bid from two North African clubs for Fawaaz,” he said, as quoted by SABC Sports.
The agent said they are open to any offers that will elevate the career of the player. The 28-year-old recently captained the national team during a friendly match against Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 June.
“We would consider any offer that can take the player to the next level, but we won’t be jumping into anything just yet – especially with the Afcon in mind. I’d like to also remind interested parties that Fawaaz is under contract at Stellies and they still hold all the cards. The North Africa proposal is quite lucrative though,” Michaels concluded.
Basadien had an impressive season with Stellies, leading them to a third-place finish and reaching the semifinals of the CAF Confederations Cup.
He played 46 matches, netted seven goals and provided eight assists across all competitions during the 2024/25 season.
He has been linked with Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, but he remains unbothered by the speculation, stating that he chooses to concentrate on what is within his control.
“Like I said before, it’s just focusing on what I can control. Obviously, all the rumours and all of those things, it’s nice to have that as a player but my main focus is just to, whatever opportunity I get to play, it’s just to do well and keep doing what I’m doing,” Basadien said during Bafana’s press conference ahead of the Tanzania match.
