The Premier Soccer League transfer window officially opened on Tuesday, July 1st, igniting a flurry of activity as clubs vie to strengthen their rosters.
While new signings often grab headlines, there’s been considerable interest in the players released by clubs, either due to their contracts expiring or being deemed surplus to requirements.

SBN brings you some of the most notable players who have departed PSL clubs so far:
1. Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Perhaps the biggest shocker of the transfer window, Peter Shalulile has become a free agent after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns expired on June 30, 2025. The prolific Namibian international spent five incredibly successful years with the Brazilians, becoming a club legend.
During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in securing five league titles, the African Football League, the MTN8, and the Nedbank Cup. Shalulile is now free to sign with any club, and there’s already significant interest from teams in the Middle East and North Africa for the services of this highly sought-after forward.
2. Sipho Mbule (Mamelodi Sundowns)
The much-maligned midfielder, Sipho Mbule, was released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of his contract. After spending last season on loan at Sekhukhune United, Mbule didn’t have to wait long for a new home; he was a surprise signing for Orlando Pirates, adding an intriguing new chapter to his career.
3. Innocent Maela (Orlando Pirates)
A true Orlando Pirates legend, Innocent Maela has departed the Buccaneers following the expiration of his contract. In his final years at the club, Maela saw his game time significantly reduced, transitioning into more of a bit-part player. Unlike many who seek new clubs, Maela has reportedly opted for retirement, though there are whispers that Pirates are considering offering him a backroom role within the club.
4. Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates)
Another out-of-contract star released by Orlando Pirates is full-back Paseka Mako. Having struggled for consistent game time over the past two seasons, Mako’s departure was anticipated. Reports suggest he has already secured a deal with arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs, making this a notable cross-town move.
5. Ranga Chivaviro (Kaizer Chiefs)
Striker Ranga Chivaviro has been released by Kaizer Chiefs after an underwhelming spell at Naturena. His contract concluded after a season where he managed to net just three goals for the Amakhosi. Chivaviro is now actively on the hunt for a new club to reignite his scoring form.
6. Edmilson Dove (Kaizer Chiefs)
Long-serving Mozambican defender Edmilson Dove has ended his four-year stay at Kaizer Chiefs, released after his contract expired. Dove, who offered versatility by playing at both centre-back and left-back, was a consistent presence for the Amakhosi during his time with the club.
7. Sihle Nduli (Stellenbosch FC)
Midfielder Sihle Nduli made a strategic decision not to renew his contract at Stellenbosch FC after learning of strong interest from Orlando Pirates. His gamble paid off, as he has since been unveiled by the Buccaneers, bolstering their midfield options.
8. Brian Onyango (Stellenbosch FC)
Kenyan defender Brian Onyango finds himself in search of a new club once again. After being released by Mamelodi Sundowns last year, he landed at Stellenbosch FC. That being said, his stint in the Cape Winelands was brief, as the club opted to part ways with him after he made just eight appearances last season.
9. Gabadinho Mhango (Marumo Gallants)
The well-travelled Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango was recently released by Marumo Gallants. The experienced forward is already reported to have found a new home, with sources indicating he has joined Richards Bay, looking to add his attacking prowess to their squad.
10. Ime Okon (SuperSport United)
While not a direct move within the PSL, the departure of Ime Okon from SuperSport United is highly significant. The former Matsatsantsa defender has arrived in Germany and is poised to complete a move to Bundesliga 2 side Hannover 96.
The Bafana Bafana international reportedly snubbed Kaizer Chiefs for the European opportunity and is expected to undergo medical tests shortly before signing a long-term contract with the German club, marking a major step in his career.
