Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo has quelled speculation he would join Orlando Pirates after signing a new three-year deal at Bidvest Wits.
This, just a week after Hlatshwayo raised concerns in the Wits camp when he said he was looking for a new challenge and admitted in the same interview that he grew up supporting the Buccanneers.
Wits CEO Jose Ferreira confirmed the news of the contract extension on Radio 702 and CapeTalk Radio on Sunday evening.
“Thulani signed a three-year contract extension. He’s a keeper and we are happy to keep him for the next three seasons,” confirmed Ferreira.
The news will come as a big relief to Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt, who was desperate to keep hold of his defensive general. Hunt will also be happy that the 29-year-old did not leave to rivals Pirates, who were targeting Hlatshwayo to bolster their defence.
