Orlando Pirates are in search of a new coach following the departure of Jose Riverio, while Mandla Ncikazi is presently serving as an interim head coach. It is still unclear if he will receive a permanent appointment, having been a member of the technical team since 2021.
The 56-year-old mentor confirmed his commitment to the club, stating that he remains dedicated until he is informed otherwise.
“I’m wired differently, I’m working at Pirates,” Ncikazi said.
“If I’m there good enough, if I’m not there and it’s decided I’m still good enough.
“I’m just happy with the contribution I’m making in the club and am appreciated by the club.
“And as long as it’s still like that I will always be a servant of this club until told otherwise.”
Talking about the team’s season, Ncikazi expressed his satisfaction with how the Buccaneers played and how the club has given the youngster the opportunity to play for the senior team.
“I’m a smaller puzzle in a bigger picture, and how I’m wired, this has nothing to do with me, it’s a mission,” he said.
“When you are at Pirates, you are sent, so, you must fulfil the mission.
“But the growth in the club it depends on how you look at it, I look at the positive side of life.
“The growth that has been mentioned, the narrowing of the gap (between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns), the records that have been broken, the young players that have been introduced, those are positives.
“Yes, we fell short on some objectives that we wanted, and one can only learn from that and improve going into the next season.”
Riveiro left big shoes to fill after a successful tenure at the club which saw him lifting five trophies and reaching the semifinals of the CAF Champions League this season.
