Transfer News: Experienced Orlando Pirates midfielder set to depart the Mighty Buccaneers

Orlando Pirates are reportedly set to part ways with one of their most experienced midfielders when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

This decision comes after the player struggled to find regular game time in the Bucs line up this term, making only two appearances across all competitions during the current campaign.

Under the guidance of outgoing coach Jose Riveiro, Miguel Timm has seen himself fall down the midfield pecking order.

The emergence and consistent performances of Thalente Mbatha and the established presence of Makhehleni Makhaula have restricted Timm’s game time considerably.

Sources within SABC Sport have indicated that Timm’s departure is imminent, with Orlando Pirates opting not to trigger the option to extend his current contract, which concludes on June 30th.

This will make the 33-year-old midfielder a free agent, allowing other clubs to pursue his signature in the upcoming weeks.

Interestingly, Timm faced a similar contractual situation around this time last year. However, the club ultimately decided to retain the popular figure within the dressing room, offering him a one-year extension after he had featured prominently with 30 appearances that season. In stark contrast, his involvement in the current campaign has been minimal.

With Riveiro having coached his final match for Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night, amidst strong rumors of a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly, the decision regarding Timm’s future appears to signal a strategic shift within the club’s midfield composition.

It remains uncertain whether Timm will be afforded an opportunity to bid farewell to the Orlando Pirates faithful by featuring in any of the remaining four league matches.

The team will be under the interim guidance of coach Mandla Ncikazi and head performance analyst Rayaan Jacobs for these final fixtures.

Prior to the January transfer window, Timm had reportedly attracted interest from fellow topflight outfits AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United. However, a move did not materialize, with suggestions that Timm was determined to fight for his place within the Orlando Pirates squad.

Despite the limited game time this season, Timm has amassed over 60 appearances for the Soweto giants and was an integral part of the squad that achieved significant success under Jose Riveiro, winning five trophies during the Spaniard’s three-year tenure.

His experience and leadership will undoubtedly be a loss for the Buccaneers, even if his on-field contributions were reduced in his final season.
