Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi is eyeing an upset when his side takes on an in-form Orlando Pirates in their Betway Premiership clash on Tuesday.
Pirates head into the encounter full of confidence following their 2-1 Soweto Derby victory over Kaizer Chiefs, but Mngqithi believes Arrows have what it takes to cause an upset – if they prepare well.
“First, we need to look at Pirates, assess their strengths and their last three or four matches, and identify how we can capitalise on some of their weaknesses,” Mngqithi told FarPost.
“We also need to do our best to manage the areas where they are strong. I’m always confident that in games where you don’t need intrinsic motivation, this team can come out and surprise you – they want the win just as much.”
While Pirates are riding high after a morale-boosting victory, Arrows are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC this past weekend. However, Mngqithi insists his team can rise to the occasion.
“It’s just unfortunate that when you win matches against the so-called big teams, and drop points against smaller sides, it feels like you’ve undone your progress,” he added.
“But I’m very confident that in this Pirates game, we can still do very well.”
Golden Arrows are currently 14th on the Betway Premiership table with 26 points, just three ahead of relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs, making every remaining fixture a must-win.
