Defender Edmilson Dove believes that coach Nasreddine Nabi shouldn’t be solely blamed for Kaizer Chiefs’ ongoing struggles, but that the whole team must share the blame.
This comes after Amakhosi recorded their 11th league loss against Marumo Gallants on Saturday and moved out of the top eight.
Nabi’s tenure has been met with a great deal of criticism as the club is showing little to no improvement.
Chiefs are currently 9th on the log with 30 points. Last season, they finished in the 10th position with 36 points.
With three Betway Premiership matches remaining, he has a tough task ahead of him of leading the club towards a top-eight finish.
He will also have a chance to ease pressure and end the decade-long trophy drought when he clashes with Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10.
The Mozambican defender reckons that the club’s misfortunes are a collective responsibility and that fingers should not be pointed at a single person.
“In a team, we should all be held accountable because at the end of the day, the coach is there to give us whatever tools, but at the end of the day, we have the responsibility of delivering on the field,” Dove told FARPost.
“So we can’t blame one side and leave the other because we’re a group and always talk about unity and being together. If the team loses, we all lose.
“If the team wins, we all win. There are certain things that are not in my power to talk about, but I think we’re all in this boat together and we should continue being together.”
The 30-year-old still believes that with more time, the Tunisian tactician can restore the club’s former glory.
“Coach Nabi is a great coach who needs more time to implement… Now it’s so easy to point fingers and say it’s the coach or the players, but we all need time to put our ideas into place and implement our philosophy.
“I think he has done that quite well and probably just needs a bit more time to work on what he needs to work on with the gents. Hopefully, he can be the person that brings this club to where it belongs.”
The Glamour Boys are gearing up for a crucial league clash against cross-town rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
