African football heavyweights Al Ahly is said to have joined the race to secure the services of Pyramids FC’s prolific forward Fiston Mayele, a talent who has long been on the radar of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in the 30-year-old Mayele dates back to his impressive spell with Tanzanian giants Young Africans. The Soweto-based club were keen on securing his services even before his move to Egyptian football with Pyramids FC.
Adding an intriguing layer to this potential transfer is Mayele’s reported strong desire to play for the Glamour Boys, a move that would see him reunite with current Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi, with whom he enjoyed a successful working relationship during their time together at Young Africans.

Mayele has been in scintillating form this season, showcasing his predatory instincts both in the Egyptian domestic league and on the grand stage of the CAF Champions League. His pivotal brace against Orlando Pirates in the Champions League semi-final was instrumental in propelling Pyramids FC to the final, where they are now set to clash with fellow South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns.
Recognizing his immense value, Pyramids FC are reportedly keen to retain Mayele’s services and have offered him a new two-year contract, despite his current deal running until June 2026. This proactive move underscores their determination to hold onto the Democratic Republic of Congo international.
However, the landscape of this potential transfer has now become more complex with the reported interest from Al Ahly. According to Soccer Laduma, the Cairo-based giants have also made inquiries about the in-form striker, adding him to their list of potential acquisitions for the next season.
A source close to the situation revealed to Soccer Laduma: “It’s true Pyramids want to keep him, and that’s why they have offered him a new two-year contract even though his current contract still has over a year remaining, expiring in June 2026.”
The source further elaborated on Al Ahly’s interest, stating: “And one of the teams that has enquired about him is their Cairo rival, Al Ahly. At the moment there is nothing much we can say but the interest is there and Al Ahly have enquired about him,”
The financial aspect is expected to play a crucial role in determining Mayele’s next destination. The source emphasized: “You see, as much as Kaizer Chiefs and Al Ahly could both be interested in Mayele, it will go down to how much they are offering. Personally he is believed to be on a very good salary and Pyramids are one of highest paying clubs not only in Egypt but in Africa as well. So although there is different interest in him, it will all go down to monetary factors.”
This development sets the stage for a potentially intense transfer battle for Fiston Mayele’s signature. Kaizer Chiefs’ long-standing interest and the allure of reuniting with coach Nabi will be pitted against the prestige and financial muscle of African giants Al Ahly, creating a compelling narrative as the transfer window approaches.
