These two giants of South African football are set for their fourth successive meeting this season. Sundowns have been victorious in all those meetings. With the Brazilians competing on Tuesday against Esperance in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinals, it remains to be seen whether or not fatigue will be a factor when they take on a well-rested Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.

Form Guide

Masandawana edged Sekhukhune United 1-0 after Jayden Adams scored a late goal during the additional extra-time in order for them to advance to the semis.

They are eyeing a second successive Nedbank Cup final as they went down to Pirates 2-1 in last year’s final. Sundowns are yet to lift a trophy this season. The Betway Premiership is as good as theirs, as they are currently enjoying a 12-point gap with seven more games to play.

Their recent encounter with Amakhosi was one for the books as the latter brought the fight to Sundowns despite their struggles. A solitary goal from Lucas Ribeiro gave Downs the victory.

Jayden Adams is having an impressive debut season with Masandawana as well as the national team. Miguel Cardoso is expected to rely on him to control the midfield together with Marcelo Allende and Tebogo Mokoena.

Nasreddine Nabi has been receiving a great deal of criticism, having struggled to turn things around since taking over the helm. Reaching the final of the Nedbank Cup would ease pressure and bring hope that the club can lift a trophy before the end of the season.

The Soweto giants are currently fighting for a top-eight finish in the league. They are without a win in their four recent matches. Their last win was a controversial 3-1 win against Stellenbosch FC in the quarterfinals of this tournament.

Amakhosi have been enjoying a good run in this competition, having scored ten goals and only conceded once. Nabi currently has several players on the injured list, including Rushwin Dortley, Thabo Cele, who missed their last game against TS Galaxy. Inacio Miguel was replaced by Edmilson Dove and is a doubt for this match.

Strikers Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley Du Preez were not part of the matchday squad against Galaxy, it remains to be seen whether or not they will be part of this match.

How to watch

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 18:00 on Sunday, 13 April 2025 and will be carried live on the public broadcaster’s radio stations for commentary. The match will be broadcast live on satellite TV giants SuperSport channel 202 as well as SABC 1 and can be streamed on Showmax and SABC Plus respectively.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium

The 51,000 seater stadium will host the clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

The venue has been something of a fortress for Sundowns, who dominated the South African topflight last season, winning 13 of their 15 league matches played here.

Shared with the Blue Bulls rugby team, Loftus has been the stage for iconic sporting moments, including the 2023 African Football League final, multiple Currie Cup finals, and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

To win (90 min)

Mamelodi Sundowns 15/20 | Draw 23/10 | Kaizer Chiefs 4/1

It’s a bit hard to predict the outcome of this bout as there are many factors that can affect the end results. Sundowns are favourites to advance to the final, as Chiefs have been struggling with inconsistency and last defeated the home team in 2021.

That being said, back the home side on the win and over 2.5 goals at 14/10
