Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have recognized the stellar performances of South African midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch by awarding him the prestigious Player of the Month accolade.
This honor comes as a testament to Lorch’s impactful contributions since his January transfer window move to the Botola Pro 1.
The 31-year-old’s reunion with his former coach from both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Rulani Mokwena, has proven to be a fruitful one.
Joining Wydad on a short-term loan, Lorch has seamlessly integrated into the squad, showcasing his quality in eight appearances across all competitions. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, culminating in a well-deserved goal that further underscores his attacking prowess.
In a competitive internal vote, Lorch emerged victorious, surpassing teammates Mohamed Rayhi and Mohamed Moufid to claim the coveted club honor. Wydad Casablanca celebrated Lorch’s achievement with an enthusiastic announcement on their social media platforms, saying “Please welcome your player of March, Thembinkosi Lorch.”
Under the guidance of Rulani Mokwena, Wydad Casablanca currently occupies the third position in the Moroccan top-flight league standings. While they trail the league winners, RSB Berkane, by a significant 17 points, they remain within striking distance of second-placed AS FAR, sitting just two points behind.
Lorch’s continued form will undoubtedly be crucial as Wydad strives to close the gap and compete for top honors in the remainder of the season.
