
Polokwane City manager Phuti Mohafe‘s has weighed in on Jose Riveiro‘s surprising announcement that he will depart Orlando Pirates at the conclusion of the current season.
This decision comes as a shock to many, considering the consistent success Riveiro has brought to the Soweto giants, securing silverware in each of his three full seasons at the helm.

Mohafe’s comments followed Polokwane City’s recent 1-0 league defeat to Orlando Pirates, a match that further highlighted the Spaniard’s impact on the team. Speaking to iDiski Times, Riveiro expressed his appreciation for the recognition from his counterpart. “Thank you to Phuti, thank you to the coach, I didn’t hear him, I trust you on this one,” Riveiro stated, acknowledging Mohafe’s praise.
He further elaborated on the significance of such acknowledgment within the coaching fraternity, saying, “Obviously for us coaches if you get the recognition of your work from colleagues, I think it’s the best one that you can get from your own players and from your colleagues it’s something to appreciate.”
Riveiro’s tenure at Orlando Pirates has been remarkably successful. His trophy cabinet boasts an impressive collection of silverware, including three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups. Furthermore, under his guidance, the Buccaneers have also secured two second-place finishes in the highly competitive league, demonstrating a consistent level of high performance.
Reflecting on his time with the club, Riveiro emphasized his commitment and objectives. “Like I said many times, I just came here to try do my best help my club, help my team get better, to improve, to go to a better place, to go to a better level together with the coaching staff and the super staff,” he explained.
He expressed his belief in the progress made during his tenure, stating, “So far I think we did a good job. It is for the people to evaluate what we do each and every day for these players for the club as well and directly for the South African football as well.”
In conclusion, Riveiro reiterated his unwavering dedication to his role, emphasizing his professional approach and passion for the game. “Like I said, I’m just trying to do my job as good as I can with professionally, with dedication, with passion and if the consequences of that is getting results,” he affirmed.
