Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed admiration for Jayden Adams‘ rapid ascent since joining the team, emphasizing the young star’s immense potential.
The Sundowns tactician has also urged Adams to remain grounded and committed to continuous improvement, cautioning him against the dangers of complacency.
Adams made the move to the Pretoria-based club from Stellenbosch FC during the January transfer window, and his transition has been nothing short of remarkable. The talented midfielder has wasted no time in making an impact, scoring the decisive goal in Sundowns’ 1 nil triumph over Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup last Friday. This crucial contribution not only showcased his knack for rising to big occasions but also cemented his role as a key figure in the squad’s pursuit of silverware.
The 23-year-old’s impressive form extends beyond the club level. During the recent international break, Adams delivered stellar performances for Bafana Bafana, netting two goals in FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin. His exploits on the international stage further underscore his versatility and readiness to perform at the highest level.
Commenting on Adams’ influence, Cardoso told Sowetan LIVE: “It is the speed of his game that creates problems for opponents, and Jayden is a player who can inject a lot of pace into the match. When he arrived at Sundowns, I told him that he needed to raise his intensity level to compete at this club. He has been improving and doing well, but he must not get too comfortable because we have other players pushing strongly for opportunities.”
Despite the competition for places, Cardoso expressed confidence in Adams, commending his ability to adapt quickly to the demands at Sundowns.
“He is a player we trust, and he is a good professional. He still has room to improve because he is young. He joined a club with higher expectations and has settled in well despite only arriving in January.”
With Sundowns competing on multiple fronts, Adams will need to maintain his form and intensity to remain a key figure in Cardoso’s squad.
