Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has broken his silence about his high-profile move to the club, revealing that his decision to join Amakhosi was far from a mistake and has always been deeply personal for him.
Cele made the switch to Chiefs during the January transfer window, leaving Russian club Fakel Voronezh for a new challenge in South Africa.
Prior to his stint in Russia, the 28-year-old had built a solid European career, with notable spells in Portugal at Real SC, Benfica B, and Cova Piedade, as well as in Poland with Radomiak Radom.

Since arriving at Kaizer Chiefs, Cele has impressed with his performances, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s standout players. Despite the team’s struggles with consistency and challenges in securing positive results, Cele’s influence in the midfield has been undeniable, with his technical ability and work rate earning praise from fans far and wide.
“Well, I have to say, it is also the environment. The people I found here, my teammates, the technical team, and also my heart has always been here. I’ve been working on my individual dreams, and at the same time, it was always something that was going to happen,” said the 28-year-old midfielder.
“I feel good that I’m here and that I’m trying to help the team achieve our objectives.”
With the DStv Premiership set to resume this weekend following the international break, Cele is hopeful the Glamour Boys will return stronger, especially after going into the break on the back of a 2-0 loss to Richards Bay FC. They will face Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
“We are trying to share a positive mindset among ourselves. Football is life. You fall, and you rise. That’s how I look at it, and that’s how I think we look at it as a team. We are trying to feed that fire for the next game because I believe we need that,” Cele added.
