Manqoba Mngqithi secures first win as new Golden Arrows head coach

Manqoba Mngqithi claimed his first win since taking charge of Golden Arrows with a crucial 1-0 away win against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Polokwane City showed attacking intent right from the start, even though they had less possession compared to their opponents in the first half.

Bonginkosi Dlamini of City had an early chance with a long-range shot that created some danger, but it sailed just over the crossbar in the opening minutes.

As the first half progressed, the home team seemed to have the upper hand in terms of play, but they struggled to find the final touch to break the deadlock in Polokwane.

However, City’s missed opportunities would come back to haunt them early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Arrows took the lead when Mutizwa successfully chipped the goalkeeper from a difficult angle at the far post.

The goal energized Abafana Bes’Thende, and in the 64th minute, Simon Ramabu came close to doubling the lead but failed to connect with a ball that flashed across the goal.

Oswin Appollis had a chance shortly after, firing a shot from just outside the box that was on target, but Arrows keeper Ismail Watenga made the save to deny him.

The final 10 minutes saw Arrows defend their slim advantage until the final whistle, securing all three points with a hard-fought victory.
