Royal AM up for sale as battle with SARS continues

Royal AM is officially up for sale, with interested parties expected to bid on the Betway Premiership club in a public auction.

Club owner Shauwn Mkhize’s unpaid debt of R40m to the South African Revenue Service has seen the club suspended since December 29 2024.

They have since missed a number of league fixtures as well as a Nedbank Cup round of 32 tie against Milford.

Part of a SARS statement read: “The curator bonis of Royal AM Football Club (Pty) Ltd hereby invites all/any interested parties to submit offers for the purchase of the Football Club known as Royal AM as a going concern.”

The bidding will be open from 8 am to 1 pm on March 14. The winning bid will be announced on March 17 at 5 pm.

While most Premiership teams have played an average of 20 games already this season, Royal has managed only 11 league fixtures. Under new ownership, they will be expected to finish all of their games and complete the 30-game campaign.
