Nasreddine Nabi on why Kaizer Chiefs is struggling to score

Nasreddine Nabi has shared insight into why Kaizer Chiefs struggle to score goals compared to the recent two teams that he coached who were known for not being aggressive in the face of goals.

Amakhosi are currently eighth on the log with 28 points and have scored a mere 22 goals in their 20 opening matches. Meanwhile, during his stint with AS FAR of the Moroccan Botola Pro League, he finished with 65 goals and 61 goals with Young Africans SC of Tanzania.

Nabi cited the difference between the Moroccan league and the South African league, adding that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the team creates chances and scores.

Chiefs forwards missed several clear-goal chances during their 1-0 win against Magesi FC on Tuesday night. Ranga Chivaviro could’ve scored two goals, Pule Mmodi’s shot also hit the woodwork while Ashley du Preez missed while the keeper was out of his box.

“The two leagues are different, the Moroccan league and South African league, even my colleague Rulani [Mokwena] said that he feels that the Moroccan league is a little bit tougher technically and tactically,” he said.

“The best thing is we are creating opportunities, big clubs like our club need to have big players and we work every day to try to score more and to the players that we have, to make them improve in terms of finishing and scoring and creating opportunities and we believe that we will get there.

Chivaviro has been the subject of criticism for his failure to find the back of the net and Nabi advised him to remain strong mentally as playing for a big club like Chiefs comes with a great deal of pressure and criticism from millions of fans.

“Playing in a team like Kaizer Chief needs you to have a big mindset. It’s a team that has a lot of fans and the criticism comes very easily. You need to be very strong mentally even when you are at your lowest you need to stay focused and stay mentally very strong.

“We hope that Ranga is getting that and is seeing that you need to have a strong mentality to play in this kind of team,” he concluded.

Chiefs will return to action in a tough encounter against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
