Betway Prem: Kaizer Chiefs Edge Magesi FC to Return to Winning Ways

Betway Prem: Kaizer Chiefs Secure Attacker with Contract Extension

Kaizer Chiefs secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Magesi FC, thanks to a solitary goal from Ashley Du Preez, as they bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi entered the match under pressure, having lost their previous two encounters against SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite this, they were expected to overcome a Magesi side struggling near the bottom of the league table.

However, Magesi FC, under the guidance of head coach Owen Da Gama, proved to be more resilient than anticipated, having won three of their last five matches prior to this clash.

The match started with both teams playing cautiously, and Magesi showed no signs of fear, challenging Chiefs defensively and creating a few opportunities.

Chiefs, however, struggled to break down the organized Magesi defense, and it wasn’t until the 69th minute that they found the breakthrough. Du Preez showed composure and found the back of the net from close-range following a cross from Makabi Lilepo in the 69th minute.

The goal signaled wild celebrations from the players and in the stands as the relief was clear for all to see. The Sowetan Giants, while not at their best, managed to hold on to their slim advantage, securing all three points.

The victory brings much-needed relief to Kaizer Chiefs, who will be eager to build on this performance as they look to regain momentum in the league. For Magesi FC, despite the defeat, their performance against one of the top sides in the league was a positive sign, though they remain near the relegation zone as they continue their fight for survival.

The win cements Amakhosi in eighth place on the log, six points above Chippa United who do have two games in hand while Magesi remain in the relegation play-off position, one point behind Richards Bay.

It’s a swift turn around for Nabi & Co who will turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup quarter final tie with Stellenbosch this weekend. Kick off at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is set for 18h00 on Saturday, 08 March.
