Betway Premiership Preview

This weekend has some exciting matchups to look out for.  Saturday offers unpredictable action with the headline fixture of the weekend on offer between league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. Cape Town City travels to Durban on Sunday in hopes of turning their fortunes around as they take on Arthur Zwane’s resurgent AmaZulu outfit.

Saturday 1 March

18/10 Magesi | Draw 2/1 | SuperSport United 14/10 (15:30)

Magesi are deep in the relegation zone and with just a single win at home all season, this will be another tough challenge to get over. There have been glimpses of what Magesi can offer but the question remains, do they have they quality to do it on a consistent basis?

SuperSport United won this fixture in the first round and with the newfound energy given from their new arrivals, anticipate coach Gavin Hunt’s men to be aggressive with high intensity as another three points will see them climb the table and earn back-to-back victories for the first time since December last year. We tip SuperSport to come away with the victory.

11/10 TS Galaxy | Draw 2/1 | Golden Arrows 5/2 (17:30)

TS Galaxy, after a 12-match unbeaten streak, are looking for a swift turn around after facing back-to-back defeats. They have shown to perform better when playing at home and will look to take advantage of the inconsistencies Golden Arrows have displayed this season.

After an impressive 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows failed to carry that momentum and managed to register two points from the last three games, with two draws and a heavy 4-0 defeat to Sundowns. The Durban-based outfit do play a good brand of football and will need to be clinical in the final third and solid defensively if they look to get back to winning ways. A draw is the likely outcome in this fixture.

13/10 Richards Bay | Draw 2/1 | Chippa United 2/1 (20:00)

Richards Bay have picked up some form over the last four games, managing two draws and two wins. Having won the last two home games, these victories along with their fans, should motivate and enhance their performance as another win not only maintains their unbeaten streak but provides breathing room between them and the relegation scrap.

Chippa United have a poor away record, having won two out of eight away matches this season. The Chilli Boys will need to be defensively solid on the day as they tend to leak in goals from unforced errors. Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali will have to be at his best between the sticks to give his team a chance of adding another valuable three points to their tally. Richards Bay to win.

Sunday 2 March

1/1 AmaZulu | Draw 2/1 | Cape Town City 28/10 (15:30)

In the last five fixtures, AmaZulu have shown a lot of promise and quality, recording three victories, a draw, and a loss. The recent 3-0 victory over Magesi showed the attacking prowess and defensive solidity AmaZulu have in their locker. With three wins from the last four home games, confidence will be high in the team which will allow them to play with fluidity and perhaps snatch up another home victory on the bounce.

Cape Town City are looking to bounce back after a disappointing month of February as the Citizens picked one point from a possible 15, conceding nine, and scoring two goals across five matches. This will be another tough fixture for Mushin Ertugral to overcome as they navigate their way out of this poor run of form. Back AmaZulu to win.
