Jose Riveiro highlights the importance of winning their next three matches

Jose Riveiro insists Orlando Pirates need to make the most of their upcoming games ahead of facing Betway Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns next month.

The Buccaneers are in second place on the league standings with 36 points from 15 games; 12 points behind Sundowns but with three games in hand.

Riveiro’s team play Marumo Gallants, Chippa United and Stellenbosch before facing the Brazilians on March 15.

Wins in all three games would leave the Bucs just three adrift of the table toppers, with 12 games of the season to play.

Speaking after his side’s 2-1 come-from-behind win against Cape Town City at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, the Bucs boss said in the Citizen that each and every game is important until the end of the campaign.

He explained: “We have three games in hand and need to make the most of them. Otherwise, they won’t mean anything.

“There’s still a chance to close that gap, and we have to work hard to make it happen, but it’s still possible. I don’t focus on the table. I promise you.”

Riveiro added: “I used to have a look at the table in the last four or five games, maybe to see some others. I’m not the type to obsess over the numbers. There’s nothing to gain from that.

“It is what it is. It’s the current state of the league and the competitions. All we can do is give our best in each upcoming game.”
