Update: Monnapule Saleng’s transfer saga twist

No Saleng, No Problem: Pirates Attacker Still Missing as the Sowetans Snatch First-Leg CAF Advantage

The football agency that represent Orlando Pirates dangerman Monnapule Saleng has finally spoken out about the player’s current predicament with the Sowetan Giants, addressing growing speculation regarding his future with the club.

In a statement, P Management Sports, addressed the swirling rumors, acknowledging the ongoing speculation around their client’s situation. Several reports have suggested that the winger has refused to train with the club after a rumored failed transfer to African heavyweights Al Ahly.

The Egyptian outfit reportedly sought to bring Saleng in as a replacement for Percy Tau, who made the move to Qatar SC in the January transfer window.

Adding further fuel to the fire, the agency referenced Saleng’s recent rumored move during the January transfer window. Pirates officially issued a statement clarifying that Saleng would not be leaving, following reports that the club had turned down an offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Nasr.

According to FarPost, that offer would have seen Saleng earn an impressive salary of $700,000 (approximately R13 million) during his initial year with the club.

Despite the swirling speculation and media attention, P Management Sports reiterated that the situation is of a “sensitive nature” and will not be discussed further in public. They noted that the issue at hand is ultimately a matter of “employer-employee relationship,” which requires internal resolution.

“We are aware of the ongoing speculation surrounding our client, Monnapule Saleng. While we have refrained from making public comments due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the matter, our silence should not be misconstrued as an endorsement of the narrative being presented against him,” reads the statement by P Management Sports.

“This matter involves significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship that require resolution. Our client remains committed to addressing these matters through the appropriate legal and professional channels.

“Given the confidentiality of the matter, we will not be engaging in further public discussions. Our priority remains to act in our client’s interests while advocating for a fair and amicable resolution. We trust that the proper processes will lead to an outcome that serves the best interests of all parties involved.”

Orlando Pirates recently staged a dramatic comeback in their previous Betway Premiership outing. Despite trailing at the break, the Mighty Buccaneers equalized through Tshefogatso Mabasa before Goodman Mosele completed the turn around in the dying stages of the tie at Orlando Stadium.

The Sowetans will be in action this weekend against Marumo Gallants in the South African topflight. Kick off in Bloemfontein is set for 17h45 on Saturday, 01 March 2025.
