Stan Matthews reckons SuperSport would be a better team had they kept their star players

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews has made a claim about his former players, including Ronwen Williams, Thapelo Maseko, and others who have left the club.

In recent seasons, Matsatsantsa have sold no less than six players to Masandawana. This includes Williams, Maseko, Teboho Mokoena, and Sipho Mbule, among others.

Facing criticism about his management methods, Matthews clarified why he frequently sells players to Sundowns, but also acknowledged that this practice negatively affects his team.

“We would be a much better team if we still had Maseko, Mokoena, Ronwen, and of course, we would have loved to have kept them,” Matthews told Sportswire.

“But when players move to salary brackets far beyond what we can offer as a club, we don’t want to hold them back.

“So, when Ronwen, after 18 years with the football club, said, ‘This is the kind of money I can get elsewhere,’ what do you want us to do? Say ‘No,’ when we can’t pay him anywhere near close to that kind of money?”
