Kaizer Chiefs have put an end to months of speculation by announcing three new signings including Congolese forward Glody Makabi Lilepo.
The 27-year-old gained recognition while representing Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Club, scoring five goals in ten matches during their CAF Champions League campaign.
He then earned a move to the French third division club Valenciennes FC where he featured in 46 matches, netted seven goals and provided five assists before departing for Amakhosi.
He joins the Naturena-based team on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Chiefs’ Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. said, “We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of a player with his experience and wish him all the best. We’ll do our utmost to help him settle in quickly and look forward to seeing him in action soon.”
Tashreeq Morris, who began the season with SuperSport United, has been announced as the latest addition to the Chiefs squad on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Notably, Morris scored the decisive goal in Chiefs’ 1-0 loss to United earlier this season.
“We would like to welcome Tashreeq to the Amakhosi family and look forward to his contributions in the upcoming matches. He is an experienced striker who came highly recommended by coach Nabi and his technical team after their assessment. We wish him all the best in the Gold & Black colours while here with us,” says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.
Midfielder Thabo Cele has joined Amakhosi after parting ways with Russian Premier League side FC Fakel Voronezh, following the termination of his contract. He has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.
“It’s been a long time coming for Thabo, and we are both glad that he’s finally here,” says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., “We know his quality and we are looking forward to his contribution to the squad as we continue to build.”
The Glamour Boys have struggled to find their scoring touch, with speedy attacker Ashley Du Preez currently sidelined due to injury and Ranga Chivaviro continuing to face challenges. Wandile Duba, deployed as a striker, was substituted in the first half of their Nedbank Cup clash against Free Agents FC on Sunday.
With the Soweto Derby looming, it remains to be seen if the new recruits are going to make it to Nasreddine Nabi’s matchday squad. Lilepo is not eligible to partake in this showdown pending the approval of his work permit.
