Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC have bolstered their squad with the signing of experienced goalkeeper Malcolm Jacobs.
Bakgaga have been struggling at the back, conceding 21 goals in 16 matches since the start of the season, making them one of the most conceding teams in the NFD.
Only last-placed Leruma United and Venda Football Academy have conceded more, with 27 and 23 goals respectively.
The 35-year-old Jacobs joins Baroka at a critical time, as the Limpopo-based club currently has three inexperienced goalkeepers – Katlego Molefe (23), Kgaugelo Sithole (19), and Tshepo Mohui (25) – on their roster.
“Baroka Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Malcolm Jacobs on a one-year deal,” read a statement from the club.
“The 35-year-old goalkeeper cut his teeth at Highlands Park, Mbombela United, Ubuntu FC, Richards Bay FC, and Highbury FC.”
With Jacobs’ signing, Bakgaga will be hoping to tighten up their defense, stop conceding goals, and improve their position on the NFD log.
The club is currently fifth on the league table, having accumulated 24 points so far this season.
Jacobs is likely to make his debut for Bakgaga when they face Umvoti FC in the last 32 round of the Nedbank Cup at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
