After winning the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award, Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners expressed his gratitude to his teammates. He called the achievement a “great feeling” but insisted it was a result of the team’s combined efforts.
Rayners has been in exceptional form for Sundowns since joining the club, consistently contributing with goals and assists.
Among his standout performances were decisive goals in 1-0 victories against his former side, Stellenbosch FC, and AmaZulu FC last year.
“It’s always good to win individual awards, but it is not about me alone. It is about the team – the team effort, the team helping me win something at least. So, I am happy,” said the former Stellenbosch FC player.
Reflecting on his recent performances, Rayners shared: “It was a good month for me. Just because we travel a lot and play a lot of games, I was always keeping focused. I was happy and in a very good space. The team was happy, so it was a good feeling for all of us. It’s just that traveling was making us tired, but we pushed through it.”
With Sundowns managing a packed schedule, balancing domestic football with the CAF Champions League, Rayners highlighted the importance of proper recovery and nutrition in maintaining top performance levels.
He credited the club’s support staff for their role in the team’s success.
“It’s all about resting and working with the physios and the people who support us. They always tell us to get a lot of rest and eat properly. So, for me and my teammates, it was good,” he concluded.
