AmaZulu fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their new signings Bongani Zungu and Sandile Mthethwa make their debut for the club, said coach Arthur Zwane.
Both players were added to the AmaZulu squad during the current transfer window, but co-coach Arthur Zwane feels they still need some time to adjust.
Speaking after their goalless draw with neighbours Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby this past weekend, Zwane explained that they need to be cautious with their new signings, particularly Zungu, who has been out of action for some time.
“We know that Bongani has been out of the game for a very long time. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get friendlies to build him up in December,” the Usuthu co-coach told the media after the Arrows match.
“We can’t just throw them in because we don’t want to risk injuries, but had we scored two goals, we may have given Bongani a few minutes. Sandile is also coming along nicely… he will get his chance.”
Zungu joined Usuthu after a move to Wydad Casablanca in Morocco didn’t materialize. The midfielder was reportedly on the verge of reuniting with former coach Rulani Mokwena at the North African club.
Meanwhile, defender Mthethwa made his way to AmaZulu from Orlando Pirates – a club he joined as a young boy in 2016 after being scouted during a youth tournament in KZN.
It remains to be seen when the two players will make their debut for Usuthu, who are gearing up for their next match in the league against Sekhukhune United at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.
