Former Golden Arrows defender Bradley Cross was left speechless when his agent informed him that Kaizer Chiefs were interested in securing his services.
This came after the left-back’s impressive showing in the colours of Abafana Bes’thende where he was a regular starter and was featured in 24 matches during his one-season spell. He joined Chiefs on a four-year contract at the start of the season.
“I heard from my agent that Kaizer Chiefs were interested, and I was shocked, I was also eager because I previously came on trial (to Chiefs) and I didn’t make it. So, I wanted to prove a point that I am good enough. My family were so happy for me because they know that I’ve put a lot of hard work into what I do,” said Cross on episode 166 of Kaizer ChiefsTV.
The 23-year-old has become Nasreddine Nabi’s first-choice left wingback since joining Amakhosi at the start of the season, he has been featured in 11 matches across all competitions. He recently returned from a career-threatening leg injury that he picked up during his side’s 2-0 loss to Polokwane City.
“Since I joined Kaizer Chiefs, it has been difficult because there are a lot of players that are new, and we don’t really know each other but we are getting to know each other. The coach has been good but also hard on us because he doesn’t want us to become complacent, he always wants 110% and he wants us to win games.
“My biggest achievement so far (at Chiefs) would be getting the Man of the Match award in my debut for Kaizer Chiefs. I feel like I had a lot of pressure against me at that time but most definitely my biggest achievement,” Cross concluded.
The Glamour Boys experienced a slow start to their 2024/25 season, currently seventh on the Betway Premiership standings with 15 points having secured four victories, played three draws and lost four in their 11 opening matches.
Their decade-long trophy drought was prolonged by their quarterfinal exit in the Carling Knockout Cup where they were demolished by Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0.
Amakhosi are set to return to winning ways in their Wednesday clash against Stellenbosch FC which coincides with the club’s 55th anniversary celebration at FNB Stadium.
