Orlando Pirates secured a convincing 3-0 CAF Champions League win over Stade d’Abidjan, earning high praise from head coach Jose Riveiro.
Goals from Relebohile Mofokeng (22nd minute), Patrick Maswanganyi (50th minute), and Deon Hotto (85th minute) secured the Group C victory.
The result saw Pirates move to the top of the standings with eight points from four games; one point ahead of Al Ahly, who lost to third placed CR Belouizdad 1-0 on Friday.
Stade d’Abidjan prop up the standings with one point.
Speaking after the game, Riveiro said on SABC Sport: “A really good game from the boys, excellent attitude, excellent intention and well execution.
“Well executed our plan. You always want more. We are playing a competition maybe a goal difference can play a role in the end.
“But we cannot complain about anything today, I think it was an extraordinary performance in every phase, not allowing opponents to play at all. We managed to do our pressing very well throughout 90 minutes and played well from the build-up. I think it’s really positive game for the team.
“It’s a good thing after four games to be leading the group, really difficult group just look at the names and you can understand that it’s not an easy thing.
“Still not enough in terms of points we are on eight now, two more games next one is here at home it seems like an important one again.”
Pirates are next in action away to Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.
