The PSL made an historic announcement at their annual general meeting with the news that, for the first time in it’s history, South Africa’s top-flight recorded R1 Billion in revenue for the 2018/2019.
Last season’s cash bonanza is the league’s highest ever income in it’s history after 23 years.
The PSL make most their revenue through selling broadcasting rights, sponsorships and other services.
Most of the organisation’s funds are generated from it’s seven official sponsors and broadcast partners: SuperSport, Absa, Nedbank, Telkom, MTN, MultiChoice and GladAfrica.
GladAfrica only came on board at the start of the current season with the main sponsor of the South Africa’s first division.
The historic numbers declared is an improvement on last year’s R938 million and the R884 million declared for the 2016/2017 financial year.
This season also saw the prize money for the Absa Premiership increased by 50 percent – from R10 million over the past 12 seasons to R15 million.
