Shandre Campbell continues fine form in Belgium

SuperSport United academy graduate Shandre Campbell has continued to impress at his new home Club NXT, the academy side of Belgian top-flight side Club Brugge.

The midfielder scored a brace in their 3-1 victory over Lierse K in the Belgian First Division B at Stadion Schiervelde this past Saturday.

Campbell’s goals came two minutes apart, with the former Matsatsantsa player’s first goal coming in the 51st minute, before scoring another in the 53rd minute.

The 19-year-old has now scored three goals for Club NXT in just two games for the Belgian club.

The midfielder was signed by Brugge from SuperSport in July, following an impressive display in his debut campaign for Gavin Hunt’s charges.

After being promoted to the first team at Matsatsantsa, Campbell quickly adjusted to first-tier football, as he went on to play 30 games across all competitions including the Caf Confederations Cup – where SuperSport’s run ended in the group stages.

In the games he played, the talented midfielder scored six goals.

Having managed to take his scoring form from South Africa to Belgium, the South African Under-20 player stands a good chance of getting a chance at Brugge’s first team, where Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau played.

Club NXT’s next game is against RFC Liege away from home at Stade de Rocourt on Sunday.

Campbell’s team are seventh on the league table with 12 points after eight games.
