Hugo Broos (born 10 April 1952) is a Belgian professional football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of the South Africa national team.
Broos enjoyed a highly successful coaching career in Belgium. From 1991 to 1998, he led Club Brugge to two league championships (1992 and 1996) and three Belgian Cups (1991, 1995, and 1996). Broos continued his success at Anderlecht, guiding them to the Champions League and a league title in 2004.
However, his tenure at Anderlecht came to an abrupt end in 2005 following a disappointing season. Broos bounced back with a successful stint at KRC Genk, winning the Belgian Coach of the Year award in 2007. He later ventured abroad, coaching Panserraikos in Greece, Trabzonspor in Turkey, Zulte Waregem in Belgium and Al Jazira Club in the UAE.
In 2016, Broos was appointed as the manager of Camroon and led them to victory in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He took the role of sporting director of K.V. Oostende after being laid-off as Cameroon’s coach in February 2018. On 5 May 2021, he was appointed manager of the South Africa national team, whom he led to a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
