Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he’s happy to see Kaizer Chiefs on the up under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Amakhosi started their 2024/25 Betway Premiership season with wins over AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants before a narrow 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The last time the Soweto giants won the South African top-flight was in the 2014/15, while they were runners-up in 2019/20.
Nabi is an experienced campaigner, who has years of experience coaching the likes of Al-Hilal, Ismaily and Young Africans.
Reflecting on Chiefs’ start to their campaign, Broos explained that it is high time the club had a coach of Nabi’s quality.
“I am happy that Chiefs show they will come [back] again to what they were a few years ago.
“Chiefs have been disappointing in the last few years.
“I think the coach who’s there now is good. I know him. I think he can change it, and he’s beginning to change it already,” said Broos.
“Now when I see Chiefs playing, there’s a plan and a structure. He knows what he wants. He’s also a guy a little bit like me. He tells the things like they are.”
Broos also had a dig at former Chiefs’ coaches, adding: “What I feel is there’s no friends politics anymore. You have to perform, then he’ll give you a place in the team, and that’s how it has to be.
“Let’s be honest, it’s not normal that a club like Chiefs is eighth or ninth in [the league].”
