Hunt: ‘We are only halfway through the season’

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt has warned Kaizer Chiefs his side will continue to fight for the Premiership title despite being some 10 points off the pace set by the table-topping Amakhosi.

While he concedes Chiefs will have to implode in spectacular fashion if Wits are to stand a chance of reeling them in, he feels the likes of SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns will also have a say in the title race.

Wits are third place, behind SuperSport on goal difference but with two games in hand, and Hunt is keen to point out that nothing is won at the midway point of the campaign.

“They’re going have to blow it up hey [for any team to catch them] – it is a good lead, and obviously two or three teams are competing,” Hunt was quoted as saying by FarPost.

He continued: “Well, SuperSport United are obviously not in Africa [so they can compete with Chiefs]. Well, Sundowns and us, it is gonna be difficult to manage.

“What, they (Chiefs) got 34 points after 13 or 14 games… geez it is a good lead already you know it is gonna be difficult, but nothing is done yet we are only halfway through the season.”

Next up for the Clever Boys is a Premiership clash with Sundowns at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night, before locking horns with Cape Town City at the same venue three days later.
