FIFA: SAFA can extend PSL season

The South African Football Association say that FIFA will allow them to extend the currently suspended PSL season to beyond the August 31st deadline.

The Premier Soccer League were hoping to restart competitive action in South Africa on July 18 but SAFA have offered August 1 as the earliest resumption date.

With teams having on average seven games left to play, a number of weeks will be needed to complete matches.

A statement from the football governing body read: “The world football governing body, FIFA has written to the South African Football Association (SAFA) advising them that they can extend the completion of the current Premier Soccer League season in terms of the Transfer Management System (TMS).

“In the same context, FIFA has given SAFA the mandate to amend the start of the next PSL season (2020/2021) and this may require the Association to amend the registration periods provided in the TMS.

“As such, the association concerned should extend the end date of the of the ongoing season in the TMS, to reflect the match schedule. This may also require the association to amend the registration periods provided in the TMS.”
