Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 26 Preview

The Madrid Derby will take centre stage in La Liga this weekend with a few other quality matchups on the cards

Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways in La Liga by beating Villarreal 2-0 last Sunday. An own goal from Alfonso Pedraza and Joao Felix put the game to bed in the late stages of the second period. Barcelona stretched the gap between themselves and fourth-placed Sevilla when they ended the latter’s six-match winning streak with a 2-0 victory in Seville. The league race is now heated and if Atletico don’t maintain consistency, they will face a very big embarrassment of letting go of a 10-points gap which had games in hand.

Friday 5 March

Valencia 28/10

Draw 9/4

Villarreal 21/20

(22:00)

Valencia and Villarreal will take on each other in a very important 26th round clash on Friday night at the Mestalla. We are probably looking at Valencia’s very last opportunity to make ground on the Yellow Submarine and keep any hopes of finishing in the top half alive. The visitors are in a very tough position going into the match. They sit seventh on the table with a four-point deficit from Real Sociedad in fifth place. I can’t trust either team, so I suggest backing a draw here.

Saturday 6 March

Real Valladolid 37/20

Draw 18/10

Getafe 37/20

(15:00)

Getafe begun their campaign on a worrying note and dropped an alarming number of points. As a result, they are now placed in the bottom tier of the table. Still, they are trying to recover made a noticeable improvement in their last match. They have been delivering good performances in recent weeks and their only defeats in the period have come against some of the best teams in Spain. Back Getafe to make it two wins in a row.

Elche 6/1

Draw 32/10

Sevilla 9/20

(17:15)

Elche host Sevilla at Estadio Martinez Valero on Saturday evening. The Sevillistas produced one of the most uninspiring performances of the campaign last weekend when they were easily beaten by Barcelona in their backyard. Elche, on the other hand, suffered a painful defeat to Granada to endure they’ve lost three of the last four La Liga matches. This is a perfect opportunity for Sevilla to bounce back to winning ways.

Cadiz 43/20

Draw 2/1

Eibar 14/10

(19:30)

Both clubs have been struggling from the beginning of the season. As of now, they are placed in the relegation zone and are trying their absolute best to claw themselves out of it. However, it needs to be mentioned that these teams have been performing very badly in the last few matches. Both these sides haven’t won a match in their last eight league games. This should be a dull affair so back Under 2.5 Goals.

Osasuna 44/10

Draw 34/10

Barcelona 11/20

(22:00)

Barcelona eased passed Sevilla last time out to put themselves back in the title race and also kick away from Sevilla. Barcelona will know how important this game will be as Real Madrid visit Atletico Madrid with at least one of those teams guaranteed to drop points in that match. Back Barcelona to win this all-important match.

Sunday 7 March

Huesca 19/10

Draw 22/10

Celta Vigo 15/10

(15:00)

Huesca have done well in the last several matches, barring some mishaps against decent teams. The hosts managed to collect seven points from their last four matches and a win here will see them move away from the 20th spot for the first time this season. For me, Huesca will survive relegation if they continue to play with the confidence they’ve shown in recent weeks. Back Huesca to make it back-to-back home wins.

Atletico Madrid 37/20

Draw 9/4

Real Madrid 15/10

Real Sociedad 5/10

Draw 33/10

Levante 52/10

(19:30)

Real Sociedad have managed to restore the form they had at the begging of the season where they were winning for fun. Sociedad have now won three games on the bounce for the first time this year. Levante are also in good form and they’ll be looking to repeat what they did against Atletico Madrid a fortnight ago. The odds suggest this will be an easy win for the hosts but I completely disagree with the betting. Because of the price, take Levante on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 27/20.

Athletic Bilbao 7/10

Draw 26/10

Granada 4/1

(22:00)

This is another game where I disagree with the betting. Athletic Bilbao don’t deserve to be 7/10 against teams like Granada. Yes, Bilbao are unbeaten in their last five matches, but it is also important to note that they’ve recorded one win in that run. Granada are fresh from knocking Napoli out of the UEFA Europa League. Again, because of the prize, take Granada to win here.

Monday 8 March

Real Betis 8/10

Draw 26/10

Alaves 7/2

(22:00)

Real Betis are in fine form and come into this match fresh from winning three matches on the bounce. This is a great opportunity for Manuel Pellegrini’s men to make it four in a row when they host on one of the worst sides in the division. Back Real Betis to win here.

TREBLE @ 13/2

Sevilla Win 9/20

Huesca Win 19/10

Real Betis Win 8/10
