Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 36 Preview

FC Barcelona players celebrating a goal

Barcelona wrapped up the league title a week after winning the league cup which confirmed their eighth domestic double and their seventh league title in 10 years. Elsewhere, there were also wins for Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as the battle for second rages on. Levante’s win over Sevilla ensured they will remain in La Liga next season while Las Palmas and Deportivo La Coruna were relegated to Segunda Division, joining Malaga. There are three rounds of action to get through, let’s see if we can make a bit of money off it.

Friday 4 May

Sevilla 15/20

Draw 29/10

Real Sociedad 32/10

(21:00)

Sevilla, who have won once in 11 games, are in danger of missing out on European competitions for the first time since 2004/2005. They are currently eighth on the log, six points behind sixth-placed Villarreal. The management change brought immediate results for Real Sociedad. The Basques continued to shine under new manager Imanol Alguacil, destroying Athletic Bilbao 3-1 last Saturday. Sociedad have won four of their last five matches and they have drastically improved their defensive displays compared to the period under coach Eusebio Sacristan. Get on Both teams to Score at 6/10.

Saturday 5 May

Girona 1/1

Draw 23/10

Eibar 28/10

(13:00)

Girona were very lucky to get a point last Sunday after Getafe were reduced to 10 men in the first half and they also missed a penalty in the second half. Girona looked like a team that would be in the top six in their maiden season but their form took a u-turn, winning just once in their last six matches, leaving the newcomers at ninth on the log. Eibar’s recent form has been nothing but disastrous and they find themselves in 12th position on the log, meaning they have nothing left to play for. Back Girona to return to winning ways.

Athletic Bilbao 12/10

Draw 24/10

Real Betis 22/10

(16:15)

Athletic Bilbao come into this game off back-to-back 3-1 defeats against Levante and Real Sociedad. The Lions are winless in their last four games while winning once in their last eight, leaving them at a disappointing 14th place on the log. Real Betis are unbeaten in their last seven games with six wins, scoring 11 goals while conceding just once (at the time of writing). They are now big favourites to securing a place in the Europa League next season, an accomplishment that seemed far from reach a few months ago. Back Betis on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 6/10.

Celta Vigo 6/10

Draw 3/1

Deportivo La Coruna 4/1

(18:30)

Celta Vigo were smashed 4-1 by Villarreal last Saturday, leaving them without a win in their last four matches and one win in their last eight. The poor run of form has seen the Sky Blues fall out of the European spot. Deportivo come into this game with their heads down after being relegated to Segunda Division last Sunday when they lost 4-2 against newly-crowned champions Barcelona. The visitors have nothing left to play for, so get on Celta Vigo at 6/10.

Villarreal 14/10

Draw 23/10

Valencia 19/10

(20:45)

Villarreal, who are in search of their third consecutive win, will continue to fight for a spot in Europe when they host Valencia on Saturday night. The reverse fixture ended in a 1-0 win in favour of the Yellow Submarine, ensuring back-to-back wins against Los Che. Valencia played to a 0-0 draw at home against Eibar last Sunday. Prior to that, Los Che had found the net in each of their last 12 games and Villarreal have scored in six of their last seven matches.Back Both Teams to Score at 6/10.

Malaga 19/10

Draw 22/10

Alaves 14/10

(12:00)

Relegated Malaga return to (Estadio La Rosaleda) their home ground where they have won two of their last three games played in this venue, losing the other match to defending champions Real Madrid. This time, they play host to Alaves, a team they have failed to beat in their last three meetings, with one draw and back-to-back defeats. Alaves have won both of their last two away fixtures, beating Eibar and Las Palmas respectively. They will surely fancy their chances against relegated Malaga. I’m backing the visitors on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 4/10.

Atletico Madrid 4/10

Draw 33/10

Espanyol 8/1

(16:15)

Atletico Madrid were lucky to walk away with three points at Alaves last Sunday. They needed a late penalty from Kevin Gameiro which was their second penalty on the day after Fernando Torres missed the first one. They remain in second position, four points ahead of neighbours Real Madrid who have a game in hand. Espanyol were disappointing after coming from a goal down to draw with relegated Las Palmas at home. Get on the hosts at 4/10 and include in all multiples.

Las Palmas 24/10

Draw 23/10

Getafe 1/1

(18:30)

Las Palmas will be playing in the Segunda Division next season. The hosts ended their five-game losing streak by drawing 1-1 at Espanyol last Saturday, but they are still without a win since February. Things didn’t go well for Getafe in their match against Girona as they were reduced to 10 men and conceded a penalty in the first half, whilst missing from the spot in the second half. Prior to that, Getafe were riding a three-game winning streak and I expect them to bounce back to winning ways against relegated Las Palmas. Get on Getafe at even money.

Barcelona 7/10

Draw 32/10

Real Madrid 33/10

Leganes 1/1

Draw 22/10

Levante 27/10

(21:00)

Leganes are running out of gas and you can tell they can’t wait till the season is over. Their lack of energy has seen them secure one win in their last six games. Los Legionarios will need to improve rapidly if they are to stop Levante, who are enjoying a three-match winning streak. The good run of form has seen the Frogs survive relegation and secure their place in Spain’s top flight next season. Levante are the in-form team here with six wins and a draw from their last eight matches, whilst Leganes have lost four of their last six. I don’t see Levante losing here so I suggest backing them on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 7/10.
QUAD @ 5/1

Celta Vigo Win 6/10

Villarreal vs Valencia BTTS 6/10
