Addressing the media ahead of the clash against Richards Bay, AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane conceded his side faces a formidable challenge, likening their quest for progression to “a mountain to climb.”
“We’re up against a very difficult team. The last time we met in the league, they beat us 2-0,” Zwane admitted. “If you look at their recent form, scoring three goals in their last match, it shows the kind of attacking threat they carry. Give them space or chances, and they’ll punish you.”
The 52-year-old mentor emphasised that his players will need to raise their level significantly if they are to progress to the next round.

“We’ll have to bring our A-game. They go into this match as favourites. Cup competitions are completely different from league fixtures — the mindset and approach change,” he added. “The players understand it’s knockout football, and if you want to advance, you must deliver your best performance.”
Richards Bay head into the fixture full of confidence following a 3-0 league victory over Chippa United. AmaZulu, meanwhile, secured their place in the Round of 16 after a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time win against Polokwane City.
Zwane also highlighted the growing impact of Richards Bay attacker Lundi Mahala, whose emergence has added a new edge to the Natal Rich Boys’ frontline.
“He brings something different to their attack. He’s aggressive, confident on the ball, and improving all the time. He adds a real dimension going forward. We’ll try to limit the service to him, but playing away from home makes that even more challenging.”
