Magesi coach John Maduka was full of praise for his side following their 2-1 come-from-behind Betway Premiership win over TS Galaxy on Saturday.
Seluleko Mahlambi broke the deadlock at the Seshego Stadium in 65 minutes, but Lehlegonolo Mokone levelled with his goal on 71 minutes before Thabang Sibanyoni sealed all three points with his effort after 81 minutes.
Maduka’s side have struggled for results this season, with this result just their second victory of the new season, to leave them in 13th place on the league standings with nine points from 10 games.
Galaxy ended the afternoon in eighth place with 13 points from nine matches played.
Speaking after the game, Maduka said he hopes the result will give his players more confidence ahead of their Carling Knockout quarter-final clash with Orlando Pirates, having beaten AmaZulu last week in the last 16.
“It was very important for us to win at least two games in a row after a long time, as it gives the players confidence. They will start to believe in themselves because they were unlucky in many games, and that belief comes in to help them,” said the head coach.
“The [FIFA] break worked because we have seen the way we’ve been playing — we managed to create chances and score more goals. Also, we had been leaking at the back, but tonight we defended well in normal play and that’s an improvement.
“We have solved the scoring situation, but we must score more and shut at the back. We need to be able to win matches 1-0 because the goals won’t always come. So, we must be able to score one and win it.”
Maduka added: “We’ve got 10 days before we play Pirates in the Carling Cup, so there’s still enough time for us to work on defending set pieces. (Saturday) we conceded a goal that was not supposed to be there; we should be able to pick and defend the free kick better, but unfortunately, we didn’t do that.”
