Wandile Duba opens up on lack of game-time at Kaizer Chiefs this season

Wandile Duba admits he is working hard to improve his form after being dropped by Kaizer Chiefs interim coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

The 21-year-old started Amakhosi’s first four Betway Premiership games of the season but has been a bit-part player since and sat out of the club’s last two league games.

Duba is yet to register a goal this season and accepts that he is struggling to replicate his performances from last term.

Reflecting on his campaign thus far, the former Chiefs’ academy graduate explained he deserved to lose his place.

Duba scored five goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign.

He said in the Citizen: “I didn’t start the season very well. That is why the coach ended up taking me out of the team.

“I wasn’t giving him what he wanted. I am still working on myself, on being better and on getting back into the starting line-up.

“Every coach needs a striker that scores in his team. Flavio (Da Silva) and (Khanyisa) Mayo got in the team and scored. I wasn’t doing that. Tactically I have been doing well but it is just a matter of getting the nod (again).”

Chiefs are next in action against AmaZulu in the Premiership on Wednesday.

“Every team when they play Chiefs, they give their best. It will not be an easy game, despite the fact that they lost their last game,” added Duba.
