Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of goalkeeper Virgil Vries with immediate affect after the player endured a poor spell of form at Naturena
Vries joined Chiefs in July last year as understudy to Itumeleng Khune however was drafted into the first team after a season-ending injury to Amakhosi’s undisputed number one.
However, the 30-year-old made a number of clangers while in goal and it forced Chiefs to draft in Daniel Akpeyi from Chippa United.
Akpeyi has also made some blunders and it now appears that former number three keeper Bruce Bvuma is starting to be recognised as the starter.
Nonetheless, Vries’ agreement was terminated on 30 April and he is now a free agent in terms of signing for a club next season.
The team’s official website quoted the player as saying: “It’s been a pleasure and a great experience to don the Kaizer Chiefs jersey.
“I thank everyone for their support during my stay at the club.”
Chiefs added: “The club thanked Vries for his contribution and wished him all the best in his future endeavours as he prepares for the upcoming Cosafa and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with the Namibian national team.”
