Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that tickets for their highly anticipated Betway Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs, scheduled for 1 March, have completely sold out. The announcement was made just hours after tickets went on sale, showcasing the intense demand for this fixture.
The game will be held at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, compared to Sundowns’ usual home ground, Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The reason for the change in venue is due to a clash with the Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) match between the Blue Bulls and the DHL Stormers, which will also take place on 1 March at Loftus Versfeld. As a result, Sundowns’ match against Chiefs has been moved to Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Despite the change in venue, Atteridgeville has become a favored location for Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso, who has praised the pitch’s excellent quality, which suits his team’s playing style.
This comes after their highly contested top of the table clash against Orlando Pirates just weeks ago where the quality of the playing surface was compromised.

Sundowns have been in dominant form this season, having already defeated Kaizer Chiefs twice. The first victory came in the South African topflight at FNB Stadium, followed by another win in the Carling Knockout Cup, also held in Soweto. In fact, Masandawana have won their previous four matches against Amakhosi across all competitions and could make it five in a row this weekend!
Currently, Sundowns are leading the Betway Premiership standings with 48 points after 18 matches, sitting a comfortable 23 points ahead of seventh-placed Chiefs, who will be desperate to turn their fortunes around.
Prior to the sell-out, Sundowns announced that tickets were available for R40 (R15 for children), and within a few hours, they confirmed the match was officially sold out. Kick off in Pretoria is set for 15:30 on Saturday, with a victory vital for both camps.
