Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa admits it was a relief to find the back of the net in the recent Betway Premiership clash with Marumo Gallants.

The 28-year-old attacker netted a hat-trick as Pirates ran rampant in an 8-1 win.

It was the first time he had scored in the league since the first game of the season and took his tally to seven for the campaign.

Mabasa’s goals also pushed him to within two of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners and level with teammate Evidence Makgopa.

Mabasa said on iDiski Times that he was delighted to score and thanked his team and teammates for their support during his dry spell.

He said: “It’s a sense of relief; the last time I scored in the league was the first game of the season against Chippa. For me to get an opportunity today and get three, just shows the amount of support I have been getting from the rest of the team.

“They have really been rallying behind me, and I can only appreciate that and say thank you to them and the technical team as well, they have shown faith in me and haven’t doubted me, I’m just happy that I could deliver [against Gallants].”

Mabasa added: “Every striker in the world of football wants to score goals, to walk away with three is a really special feeling for me.”
