Transfer News: Tinkler set to bolster technical team with ex-Pirates man

Marc van Heerden, the former Orlando Pirates defender, is set to join Eric Tinkler’s technical team at Sekhukhune United following the departure of coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

This move comes in the wake of Babina Noko’s decision to part ways with Seema, just two days after their 2-1 loss to Richards Bay FC in a Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

With Seema shown the door, interim leadership has been placed in the hands of Kaitano Tembo and Paulus Masehe, who will temporarily guide the team through this transition.

Eric Tinkler is reportedly the frontrunner to take over as the head coach at Sekhukhune United. He is expected to step into the role next week and start working with the squad immediately.

Van Heerden is set to join the technical team as Tinkler’s assistant coach, a partnership that has proven successful in the past. The two previously worked together at Cape Town City FC when Van Heerden was still actively playing for the club.

According to FARPost, Van Heerden will officially begin his new role at Sekhukhune United on Monday, 10 March 2025. The 36-year-old retired from professional football in August 2024 after an illustrious 20-year playing career.

Shortly after retiring, Van Heerden obtained his UEFA B Coaching License in September 2024, marking the beginning of his transition into coaching.

Throughout his playing days, Van Heerden had stints with several clubs, including AmaTuks, Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu FC, Cape Town City FC, Stellenbosch FC, and Chippa United.

His experience and leadership on the field make him a valuable asset to Tinkler’s coaching staff as they look to guide Sekhukhune United to greater success.
